A 50-mile linear charity challenge walk across Essex in aid of Accuro, a charity helping disabled people in Essex.
The Accuro 50 starts from Loughton tube station and largely follows the Forest Way to Hatfield Forest, where a section on the Flitch Way takes it to Great Dunmow. It then uses parts of the Saffron Trail and Harcamlow Way, with a couple of diversions, to visit Thaxted and then reach the market town of Saffron Walden.
It passes through woods and open countryside with fine views and visits some picturesque Essex villages, The section on the Flitch Way, using the old railway route, is fully accessible to wheelchair users, in harmony with the charity's aims.
The route was developed for Accuro by Peter Aylmer, an LDWA member and originator of the Trailman series of walking guides and a Cicerone author. The guidebook is the fourth in the Trailman series and like the others it has detailed route guidance, useful alternatives, colour photographs and professionally-drawn maps, as well as hints and tips for transport, accommodation, food and drink.
As well as the LDPs mentioned above, the route meets, among others, the Three Forests Way, Epping Forest Centenary Walk, Epping Forest Challenge Walk and Stort Valley Way.
The guidebook to the Accuro 50 is now available from www.trailman.co.uk and local outlets; the price of 8GBP includes a 2GBP donation to the charity.
