The LDWA was founded in 1972 by Chris Steer, Alan & Barbara Blatchford (Barbara is still a member today). In 1985 the LDWA was recognised by the sports Council (now Sport UK and Sport England) and is represented on the Outdoor Pursuits Division of the Central Council for Physical Recreation.
With 10,000 members the LDWA is large enough to be the recognised governing body of the sport yet small enough to feel like a friendly family-run club. It caters for those who enjoy walking longer distances, especially in rural, mountainous and moorland areas.
Thank you for choosing to join the LDWA and we very much look forward to seeing you out on a walk soon.
The membership year is January 1 to December 31. Members joining on or after October 1 will be granted membership for the whole of the following calendar year.
Our membership system is managed on our behalf by SiEntries.
