Ladybrook Valley Interest Trail

Cheshire, Gtr Manchester

A route from South Manchester, using suburban green waterside corridors from near the Mersey at Cheadle and Cheadle Hume, into the countryside to reach Lyme Park, Disley along the brook whose name changes along the way: Micker Brook, Lady Brook, Norbury Brook and, beyond the Trail to its source, Bollinhurst Brook. It passes the Happy Valley Nature Reserve, glimpses Poynton Lake, and crosses the Macclesfield Canal at Middlewood. Bramall Hall, one of Cheshire's grandest black and white timber-framed Tudor buildings, is also near the route at Bramhall Park.

On OS Explorer maps it ends near Lyme Park gates at SJ966842, but the publication by Bill Shercliffe continued on permissive paths to the car park and Information Centre near Lyme Hall at SJ963824 - this last section runs within National Trust land in Lyme Park. The brook's source in the moorland of the Peak District fringes above the Bollinhurst Reservoir can be reached on paths and roads outside the Park to complete a full 15-mile traverse of the valley from the confluence with the Mersey. This final section of the brook is called Bollinhurst Brook with the source on Higher Moor at SJ977820. The Transpennine Trail passes close to Abney Hall (just the other side of the Mersey with a road link over Cheadle Bridge).
