Invalid Image SizeMacmillan Way - Abbotsbury-Langport Link

Dorset, Somerset

64 km / 40 miles
The route goes north from Abbotsbury through Compton Valence, Maiden Newton, Cattistock, Evershot, Halstock, Hardington Manderville, East Chinnock and Martock to reach Langport. The Macmillan Abbotsbury-Langport Link allows walkers to go 126 miles coast-to-coast from Abbotsbury to Barnstaple, using the Macmillan Way West from Langport onwards.

Update 30th October 2022:
An unsafe footbridge on the west side of the River Parrett near the village of Kingsbury Episcopi, Somerset has meant the closure of a section of the Macmillan Way (Abbotsbury-Langport Link) between that point (ST 4380 2093) and the road T-junction at Gawbridge Bow (ST 444 199). This took effect for an initial period of 21 days from 18th October 2022 but may remain in force for longer: closure later confirmed to be 6 months from 5th November 2022, dependent on repairs taking place.
A diversion for the River Parrett Trail has been proposed by Somerset CC which makes use of rights of way between Bower Hinton and Kingsbury Episcopi. However, since the closed footpath is part of both that Trail and the Macmillan Way, an alternative route might make use of the right of way on the east side of the River Parrett. This would take both LDPs past Kingsbury Episcopi to the (Sluice) footbridge at Thorney Silent Mill (ST 4287 2261), thereafter rejoining their original routes at ST 4270 2273. (Note that this route involves a 400m stretch of the unclassified road between Thorney Silent Mill and Thorney Bridge.)
