This challenging linear walk on the eastern fringes of the Cambrian Mountains/Berwyn traces a route between the Vyrnwy and Tanat Valleys, trodden in centuries past by pilgrims, quarrymen and drovers. It's an undulating route with long climbs linking the valley floors with huge tracts of open moorland.

Experienced walkers should have no difficulties in completing this walk in one day. Recreational walkers may find it better split in two, breaking the route at Llanwyddyn, where there are plenty of facilities based around Lake Vyrnwy.

St Melangell's Church is named after a saint, who as legend says hid a hare under her robes so it could escape being killed by a prince and his huntsmen. The prince was so impressed with her godliness that he gave her the valley and she established an abbey there. She is depicted on the waymark symbol.

It links with the Ann Griffiths Walk (7 miles and on OS mapping).
