Hertfordshire

43 km / 27 miles
This path encircles Stevenage, and is connected to the town by eight Link Paths, all fully waymarked. Devised by North Herts Ramblers Group to provide an informal, active recreational leisure amenity readily available to the residents of Stevenage and the surrounding villages, the formal opening by the Mayor of Stevenage took place in September 2008.

Generally never more than 3 or 4 miles from the town centre, the undulating STOOP circuit passes through Graveley in the north, through Walkern, along the Beane Valley, via Hooks Cross to Datchworth, Woolmer Green, Knebworth Park, St Ippollitts, Little Wymondley and back to Graveley, for the most part using local footpaths and bridleways. The paths are well maintained and signed.

The path is specifically designed to be reached by public transport. From Stevenage town centre there are regular bus services (but more limited on Sunday) to Graveley (the northernmost point of the walk) and to Woolmer Green (the southernmost). Details are on www.intalink.org.uk. Graveley and Woolmer Green are about 14 miles apart, on either the easterly or westerly route and both villages are well served with pubs.
