Wiltshire

21 km / 13 miles
The Path crosses an escarpment in an area of unspoiled chalkland to the north of which are the remains of a bank and ditch which, although the identities of the defenders and invaders are not known for certain, was built to repel invaders. It can be extended into Devizes (5 miles). The Tan Hill Way (7 miles and on OS mapping) starting just to the east of Oare Hill meets the Wansdyke Path above the Pewsey Downs National Nature Reserve. Parts of these routes coincide with the White Horse Trail and the Mid Wilts Way.

The full Wansdyke earthwork stretches much further, linking Savernake Forest with the Bristol Channel over some 50 miles. Details are on the weblink below with plans for a longer walking route.
