Wensum Way

Norfolk

19 km / 12 miles
Although only just over 12 miles in length, the Wensum Way passes through some beautiful central Norfolk landscape, much of it alongside or close to the river that gives the trail its name. The River Wensum, which takes its name from Old English word for 'winding', is a designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and a Special Area of Conservation. The Wensum Way links the Nar Valley Way at Gressenhall with the Marriott's Way at Lenwade, passing through rural landscape between Gressenhall and Swanton Morley, then following the river valley, abundant with wildlife, through to Lenwade. It also forms an important link between the Nar Valley Way and Marriott's Way, creating a continuous walk right across Norfolk from King's Lynn in the west to Great Yarmouth in the east. Information and a map are online on the weblink below.

Surfaces, signposting and furniture on the Wensum Way is the same standard as the National Trails. Work to upgrade 1200 miles-worth of designated countryside paths to this high standard by Norfolk County Council across the network has created the portfolio of footpaths known as the Norfolk Trails.
