Wetlands & Waterways Loop

Lancashire

This 14-mile circular route lies between Burscough and Rufford, north of Liverpool, which has some of the flattest land in West Lancashire. Pretty cottages, nature reserves and quaint waterside pubs are just some of the things you can see along the way. There is some interesting architecture and wonderful wildlife and visitor attractions to discover. About half of the walk follows the Leeds Liverpool Canal towpaths, including the Rufford Branch canal. The route enables visits to Martin Mere Wetlands Centre and Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve and Windmill Animal Farm. You will explore the area via field paths, tracks and canal towpaths, many of which are well signposted. A downloadable leaflet is available from the link below under Downloads.
