Publisher's website August 2006
This is a directory of the leisure walking opportunities in Greater London, compiled by one of the leading authorities on the subject, himself a long standing LDWA member. It details nearly 300 self-guided trails, covering over 2300km (1450 miles). It includes the 80 named trails of the Strategic Network of the London Walking Forum as at 2002, that included the six key routes so far designated as strategic routes by the Mayor of London. It describes over 200 shorter routes, mainly heritage and nature trails. Readers are provided with information to decide which routes to try and there are schematic maps showing the strategic network and a simpler map for other self-guided routes. It includes basic detailed information, tablulated for all routes, and routes are coded for countryside or waterside. It provides a summary of all the organisations supporting walking in London. It gives advice on how to get started: guidance on walking, groups, health, challenges, maps etc. To walk a route, the route's own publications and a map are recommended - the book is a directory, not a step-by-step guide.
