A BBC Newsnight report on the England Coast Path aired recently has shown that the Government’s enthusiasm for a continuous path around the English coast is waning. See more at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23587912.
After years of campaigning by walkers across the country led by the Ramblers, walkers finally won the right for this path to exist in 2009. By 2019, ten years later, only 40% of the path was due to be completed and this is now likely to slip even further. Meawhile in 2012, devolved Wales opened its Wales Coast Path.
You can help the continuing campaign to get the full path implemented by signing the Ramblers’ petition in support of the England Coast Path, with over 19000 signatures already, but with more needed. The online petition is at http://www.ramblers.org.uk/campaign-with-us/one-coast-for-all.aspx. More details of the case for the full path are at http://www.ramblers.org.uk/what-we-do/news/2013/august/newsnight-report-government-lacks-enthusiasm-for-coast-path.aspx.
