LDWA Donates to Mend our Mountains Campaign

Posted on 2020-01-19

The LDWA have donated £500 towards path restoration work on Nun’s Cross Path within Dartmoor National Park.  Sympathetic path repair is scheduled to be completed by experienced rangers and contractors in 2020.

The route is used by 30,000 walkers and 10.000 mountain bikes a year leading to a lot of path erosion.  Work will commence to build cross drains to ensure that in heavy rain the path is not washed away or damaged. Proper drainage will also stop the ground nearby from becoming waterlogged. The path will be resurfaced using locally sourced materials to provide a durable surface, and at the same time erosion scars and associated damage will be cleaned up and restored.

Once complete, this will provide a high quality, sustainable and resilient route enabling a 12 mile (20 kilometre) circuit for walking from Princetown, boosting tourism and the local economy, as well as providing a high quality experience across remote moorland.

LDWA Environment Officer, Stuart Bain said, “it’s fantastic that the LDWA have contributed to such a worthwhile cause”  LDWA Chair, David Morgan added, “where it’s clear that a local cause may benefit that furthers the enjoyment of long distance walking, the LDWA would seek to assist”.
