Because of the Covid lockdown in Aberdeen (port for ferries to Shetland), Karen was to be unable to return to Shetland for the restart of her walk for Alzheimer's research on 10th August. Rather than delay her walk still further, she has taken the bold decision to 'flip' its entire direction and restart from her home on the Gower peninsula, proceeding now anti-clockwise around the SWCP, along the south and east coasts of England, the east coast of Scotland, to Aberdeen and - very eventually - a finish in Shetland.

You can follow her progress on her facebook group (search for 'Karen Penny the Penny Rolls On').

Karen resumes her Covid-postponed walk for Alzheimer's on 10th August from the same place in Shetland that she stopped on March 16th, continuing to Muckleflugga (the most northerly point on the Bristish Isles), round the rest of Shetland and back to the Scottish mainland. From there it's the whole of Scotland's east coast, the whole of England's east coast (probably including Lindisfarne), the whole of England's south coast (surely including the Isle of Wight), the SWCP, Bristol Channel coast and Wales's south coast, back to Gower.

When she left Shetland she was ahead of schedule, so may well complete inside her original time of, I think, three and a half years.

from where there will be news of her website and book.

In BBC online news*: Karen Perry's walk of the whole of Ireland's and the UK's coast, a distance of 20,000 miles, for Alzheimer's UK. She's in Scotland, having done all of Ireland and Wales (perhaps first inspired by Tom Davies's Welsh walk for Alzheimer's - she's from Swansea), now a quarter of the way through what she expects to be three and a half year journey. She's already raised £47,000 via JustGiving. If she succeeds it will surely be a first. She's already done 5,000 miles, a considerable achievement in any case,
