Its a lot to carry though, a newspaper( Times for preference - the crossword is a challenge) pencil, Roget's theosaurus, Chambers(hah!) dictionary, Origami book for all that folding. I think I still prefer a pub stop if possible. Failing that, a nettle free spinney will suffice. Remind me to tell you my dung beetle story one day..............

A newspaper is Ideal
Close the newspaper and fold in half, then tear out the corner which will form the center, open the newspaper out and position the hole for safe passage, astride the paper so that it is oriented in a diamond position, this enables the corner to be turned up to protect your modesty if you find you are being observed, ( Ideal for ladies)I have heard of people who are so expert in this they are able to do the crossword whilst attending to their needs. The paper protects one from the nettles and the center you have torn out can be opened up and used to tidy oneself afterwards
I find nappy sacks too small to accommadate the newspaper so I would recommend a plastic tesco bag, unfortunately you won't get any green tesco points for this.

Jane read the adverts in the papers for the answer.

If there is a pub stop at least us ladies can have the chance of a proper 'sit-down' with no danger of nettle rash!!!!

Let some one from the group you are walking with know that you are "going", drop off the back, do the business in a descrete place, ie behind a bush or tree, come back out onto the path and be astounded at how far ahead everybody is due to your short break and then catch up!

However if it is an all male group then I think less descretion is required.

Sylvie Eames always says that she is going to adjust her shoelaces, so a shoelace stop is what I've grown to call them!

What does your group call comfort breaks/private moments on Social Walks? What?s the etiquette? Find a spot ahead of the group, who then wait until you call the ?all-clear?, or drop-off the back and then catch-up? Is it acceptable just to 'stand' at the edge of the path, or should people make an effort to be more discrete?
