"Green Events" walk from Llanwrtyd Wells used to be spartan affairs - yomp through the forest and get a glass of water - yomp through the tussocks and another glass of water - and end at the hotel to buy your own beer. The Real Ale ramble has always been different with a glass of beer at every check point - but things have now been revolutionised. I had some insight into the changes at the real ale ramble in November where we were offered tea and flapjacks at checkpoints - and very welcome they were too in one of the wettest walks I can remember for a while. However - at the Lord Crawshaw - not only was there tea and home made shortbread and flapjacks at the checkpoints, but on our return - a tray with delicate china tea service and a plate of scrummy home made cakes. Chatting to the new organiser he explained that he had been listening to customer feed back.As the Lord Crawshaw visits the most attractive valley in Wales - the Doethie valley - and the walkers are now fed and watered in such a splendid fashion this is worth putting in the diary for next year (you will forget the tussocks eventually).
