Just like the surrounding landscape, this is a tough event with some long punishing ascents, as well as bleak moorland crossings. But this all offset by great support, an excellent venue and terrific food. The cakes at the checkpoints were of every fantasy, and the stew at the finish heavenly. The weather remained grey and grim all day, and the going underfoot was mostly gloopy - the overall mood was one of being fed-up with winter! Still, the smiles of the checkpointers lifted me through the day and I, once again, give thanks to Peter and his band of helpers for another great event. (Garfield)
