The Fife Pilgrim Way goes from North Queensferry across Fife to St Andrews, with an alternative starting point at Culross. The Way, officially opened in 2019, is well-waymarked and includes newly created and improved stretches of path. It links many sites which reflect Fife's rich history, and which would be familiar to those travellers long ago.

The route reflects the journey made by medieval pilgrims across Fife to the vast St Andrews Cathedral, a ruin ever since the reformation, though still a very impressive destination. The Way passes through attractive countryside with fine views over the Forth and Tay, but also includes some urban parts with their own features of interest. There are spectacular views of the Highlands, the Coast, Forth and Tay Estuaries and the Lomond Hills. It passes medieval landmarks, industrial landscapes and historic picturesque villages on its way to St. Andrews. The route is varied and passes historic sites, including the Forth Bridges, Inverkeithing Hospitium, Dunfermline Abbey and St. Andrew's Cathedral, as well as lesser known heritage features such as St. Drostan's Church Tower, Markinch, the ancient Waterless Way, Ceres and St. Finglassin's Well, Kinglassie.

Good public transport connecting points along the route makes it easy to walk sections of the Way and get back to the day's starting point.

The route uses Fife's existing network of rights of way, paths and tracks to offer varied opportunities for a long distance, multi-day route supplemented by shorter walks and circular routes.

The book listed below is not a walking guide in the usual sense, rather it is a compendium of ancient and modern history of places along and near the Way, ranging from monastic foundations and religious communities to coal mining, once a major Fife industry. Walkers may like to use the waterproof map also listed below that breaks the Fife Pilgrim Way into seven sections and is based on OS data at a scale of 1:40,000. This may be more convenient than the alternative of three Landranger maps
