Forest Way (Sussex)

E Sussex

16 km / 10 miles
The Forest Way takes you deep into East Sussex countryside, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, from East Grinstead, through Forest Row and Hartfield to Groombridge. Walk or ride the flat, tree-lined track as it winds through a peaceful, historic countryside of small fields and scattered farmsteads among wooded, rolling hills. For variety there are marked short linking loop trails off the main trail.

The Way lies in the floodplain of the River Medway below Ashdown Forest and surrounding areas may be flooded.

The Way is based on the old railway line closed in the Beeching cuts in 1966. Ironically Beeching used the line as a commuter.

Much of the route coincides with the Sussex Border Path, except for the section near Balls Green where the Border Path leaves the old railway trackline.
