E Sussex, Kent

132 km / 82 miles
This route through three AONBs connects the Thames Estuary with the English Channel through the Weald of Kent and Sussex, spanning chalk downlands, river valleys and wooded farmland in often remote country, including a full traverse of Ashdown Forest (see Ashdown Forest Perambulation for more on the Forest). It links the North Downs Way at Trottiscliffe with the South Downs Way near to Eastbourne.

There are connections with other long distance routes including the Medway Valley Walk, Sussex Border Path and Diamond Way and the Greensand, Saxon Shore and Vanguard Ways.

The route is on OS mapping and is waymarked. Note that older maps may not show path changes across the railway at Hempstead (TQ488218) and through a housing estate at Upper Horsebridge (TQ576105).

UPDATE: November 2022
Continuing FSA work from Spring 2023 is likely to mean the closure of the footpath to the north of this part of the River Medway, again affecting both the Eden Valley Walk and Wealdway for a period up to 2025.
