Armagh, Down, Louth (RoI)

61 km / 38 miles
The Ring of Gullion Way follows the Slieve Gullion ring dyke using a mixture of footpaths, forestry tracks and open hillsides as well as having significant road sections.

The route passes Fathom Mountain, Black Mountain, Slievenabolea, Slieve Gullion and Camlough Mountain. Other highlights on or close to the route include Clontygora Neolithic tomb, Moyry Castle, Craigmore Viaduct with its 18 arches, and the grounds of Derrymore House (National Trust).

Slieve Gullion alternative: this option passes over Slieve Gullion summit (573m), the highest peak in Armagh, with its huge Neolithic burial chamber and views of the Mourne Mountains and Carlingford Lough. See Connected Paths section below.

Diversion in place until further notice: between the Derrymore Road and Millvale Road see WalkNI website for up to date information.

Formed some 60 million years ago, the Slieve Gullion ring dyke was created by a massive volcanic explosion which obliterated the central volcano, but left a circle of hills radiating around the main caldera. The formation measures some 150 sq km and is the best example of its type in the British Isles.
