South Yorkshire Way - Central Route

S Yorkshire

156 km / 97 miles
Two new long distance trails have been created in South Yorkshire making up the South Yorkshire Way. One covers 171 miles around the boundary and the other 98 miles through the centre, with fine countryside, towns and history. The two routes meet near Thorne North Railway Station at the east side, and near Dore & Totley Railway Station at the west side.

The Central Route meanders through the heart of the county, passing through the centres of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, taking in old country houses, castles, follies, country parks, canals and nature reserves along the way. No route description for the route but a GPX file is available from the website at http://www.southyorkshireway.co.uk/index.html and from the LDWA website.

UPDATE May 2023: A one and a half kilometre stretch of this LDP has been closed between SK 425924 (alongside Rotherham?s New York Stadium) to SK 412922 (near Blackburn Meadows) since March 2022. It is scheduled to re-open at the end of July 2023.
