Suffolk

67 km / 42 miles
The walk is an extension west from Felixstowe on the Suffolk Coast Path and follows the coast and heaths along the estuaries of the Orwell and the Stour, going around the Shotley peninsula to Cattawade, providing links with the Essex Way (at Manningtree, across the river) and the Stour Valley Path (East Anglia) (at Cattawade).

On OS mapping, Landranger maps show the Stour and Orwell Path combined while Explorer maps name them both.

The Cicerone guide is a walkers' guide to the trails of the Suffolk coast. Walkers of the paths on and near the Suffolk Coast will find the book by Peter Caton full of interest. While not written as a guide to specific LDPs - there are three in this area - it combines travel writing with a walking guide. The 2015 book, 'Suffolk Coast Walk' provides a insights into this fascinating county and is the companion book to Essex Coast Walk by the same author. Caton explores all 162 miles of Suffolk's unique coastline, including the inlets, creeks, rivers and estuaries, sandy beaches and huge expanses of shingle, through nature reserves, seaside resorts and tiny villages. Caton considers the stories behind legends of Anne Boleyn, invading Germans, a half-man half-fish character, UFOs, Crazy Mary and bells tolling beneath the sea. He visits Suffolk's only island and takes a boat trip to investigate the secret world of Orford Ness. Colour and black & white photos illustrate the book along with maps. It will be useful background also for the Suffolk Coast Path, Stour and Orwell Walk and the Sandlings Walk.
