Thurstabubble Redhills

Essex

47 km / 29 miles
The route skirts the villages of Great Totham and Little Totham on the way to Tolleshunt D'Arcy, noted for producing the D'Arcy Spice russet apple and for having a listed maypole, and later passes Tollesbury marina. The Blackwater estuary, with its Red Hills, is then followed back to the start by way of Heybridge Basin.

The Red Hills are thought to be the remains of prehistoric and Roman salt making sites. In certain lights a reddish hue can be seen in the soil.
