London Loop

Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Gtr London, Surrey

A route introduced by the London Walking Forum which is a group comprising among others, representatives from all London Boroughs, it provides a green ring route around London generally towards the outer edges of the suburbs or in countryside.

Starting at the Thames at Erith and finishing on the opposite north bank at Coldharbour, the Loop (London Outer Orbital Path) passes through numerous woods, commons and parks and on waterside paths alongside the Grand Union Canal and London rivers such as the Colne, Crane, Cray, Darent and Ingrebourne.

The Thames Path National Trail is crossed at Kingston upon Thames and many other paths, including the Vanguard Way, Three Forests Way and Hillingdon Trail, are met along the route.

The Dollis Valley Greenwalk (10 miles and included on OS mapping) provides a link between the London Loop and the Capital Ring. The waymarked Watling Chase Timberland Trail (10 miles) from Elstree to near Hatfield is coincident with the Loop at its start. From Hatfield there is a described link to St Albans, the Alban Way.
