Lady Anne's Way

Cumbria, N Yorkshire

Lady Anne Clifford was born at Skipton Castle in 1590, the last in line of the great Clifford family. This walk is based on some of the routes taken by her whilst visiting the many important buildings of her estate. From the castle, the valleys of Wharfedale and Wensleydale are explored before traversing the high-level Lady Anne's Highway at Abbotside Fells, to Mallerstang and the Eden Valley, passing the castles of Pendragon, Brough and Brougham Castle, where she died. The route is now way-marked throughout.
