Pendle Witches Walking Trail

Lancashire

A trail based on part of the route taken when the Pendle Witches were marched off to trial for witchcraft at Lancaster in 1612. Pendle is associated with the witch trials of two old women from rival families called Demdike and Chattox who were tried and hanged at Lancaster, along with seven other family members following a plot to try to free them. The area of Pendle near Burnley is a landscape of heather-clad moorland dominated by Pendle Hill.
