A new circular walking trail around the beautiful Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland AONB.

It is the Ribble Valley Borough Mayor's Platinum Jubilee Trail - a celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Year 2022 - in aid of the Mayor's charities.

The route has 7 stages: 1. Whalley to Downham (via Pendle Hill (8.9 miles); 2. Downham to Bolton by Bowland (9.8 miles); 3. Bolton by Bowland to Slaidburn (11.2 miles); 4. Slaidburn to Chipping (11.2 miles); 5. Chipping to Hurst Green (7.1 miles); 6. Hurst Green to Mellor (6.7 miles); 7. Mellor to Whalley (7.7 miles).

The full route includes a traverse of Pendle Hill and remote moorland areas rising to over 1700ft and has in total over 7500ft of ascent. The first stage over Pendle Hill is the most demanding with 1800ft of ascent.

It will be developed as a permanent visitor tourism attraction for the area to attract walkers locally and nationally to the borough.

The Mayor's inaugural walk in September 2022 was completed by the 2022 Ribble Valley Mayor, Cllr Stuart Hirst.

Full details are on the trail's website below, with digital mapping and free downloads via popular walking Apps, including OutdoorActive & OS Maps, and route maps.

The trail has been created to encourage donations to support three mayoral charities both by sponsoring of the inaugural walk and by donations from walkers with details of how to donate on the website.
