Pilgrim's Way Whalley to Manchester

Gtr Manchester, Lancashire

An ancient pilgrim's route from St Mary's Church, Whalley through South East Lancashire to Manchester Cathedral, via historic canals and rivers, West Pennine villages, open moorland and disused railways, making use of 'Greenway' corridors. Created by the Greenmount Village Walking Group.

The trail can be walked in stages. Public transport is available from each finishing point, except on the moorland section between Helmshore and Hawkshaw.

The route crosses an MOD DANGER AREA on Holcombe Moor, which MUST be avoided on 'Red Flag' days (see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/holcombe-moor-firing-times). A diversion (Pilgrim's Way Whalley to Manchester RED FLAG Alternative) should be used on those days.
