Ulster Way - Newry Canal Way Quality Section

Armagh

The Ulster Way section of the Newry Canal Way starts two miles north of Newry and follows the towpath of the now disused canal that was the first summit-level canal in the United Kingdom. This section is part of Route 9 National Cycle Network and passes the villages of Jerrettspass and Poyntzpass before arriving at Acton Lake, also known as Lough Shark, the 'summit' of the canal.

For those wishing to walk the entire Ulster way the canal is left at the village of Scarva for the Link Section: Scarva to Aughnacloy.

WalkNI recommends that walkers stay on the Newry Canal Way to Portadown from where public transport can be used to reach the start of the next Quality Section at Aughnacloy.
